Know Allegiance Nation seeks to educate through alternative models of learning, pedagogy and non-traditional schooling environments that supports the nurturing of literacy, survival literacy and entrepreneurship in young people. Towards this goal, KAN runs a poetry and entrepreneurship program called Illuminate: Literacy Entrepreneurs; runs multiple urban garden/farm sites and a youth program called Organic Bandits; in addition to managing a broadcast journalism platform called Operation Rebel that includes an online community radio station, blog/website and bi-annual publication of the same name. KAN’s long term goal is to own land, become a publisher and open a bookstore, tea shop and community center for the sake of self-sufficiency and increased access to literary resources.
