Illuminate Literacy Entrepreneurs, a program of Know Allegiance Nation, seeks to increase literacy and encourage entrepreneurship in inner city youth ages 8-18. In the program, youth refine their reading, writing and speech skills through poetry and performance. Students learn entrepreneurship skills by creating a product (via audio production and chapbook making); as well as learn how to vend their items and network for gigs through a youth led open mic series they host.

At the end of the 6-8 week program, youth artists have the chance to compete in a poetry slam for prizes that will support their artistic and entrepreneur endeavors. Prizes include a computer, artist fellowship, mentoring, publication, performance and recording opportunities.
